Trainer Richard Deane landed a treble while six apprentices shared honours on yesterday’s opening day of the Barbados Turf Club’s first racing season entitled the New Year’s Raceday at the historic Garrison Savannah.
Deane won with Indelible, Rightontime and Prominent while apprentice jockeys won six of the day’s eight races. Rachaad Knights was the lone apprentice to record a brace, winning astride Storm Force and Scarface.
However, it was Aaron Daniel who stole the feature race with a beautiful ride astride Michal.
Competing in the seventh race over 2 000 metres, the pair sat midpack behind leaders Rainbow Warrior, Tudor Rose, Filmores and Jackmanannygap.
Positions were pretty much unchanged until the field headed for the three-furlong marker where Daniel asked the Round Table Stud Farm filly Michal to join the leaders. (LY)
