Horse racing will hold centrestage this afternoon with a New Year’s bank holiday card kicking off a 2023 season which has 22 scheduled action-packed days of racing.
Running off from 1:30 p.m., racing enthusiasts can expect excitement galore, terrific finishes and excellent payouts.
Melrose Racing, the champion owners for 2020, will look to their mare Tudor Rose to win the feature New Year’s Day Handicap going over 2 000 metres. Restricted to West Indian-bred three-year-olds and older rated 70-52 and below, she has been carrying good form, winning three of her four career wins last year.
In this event, which has a post time schedule of 4:50 p.m., Tudor Rose hails from the barn of newly-crowned champion trainer Robert Peirce. If that is not enough, then one can add the new champion jockey and apprentice Teshawn Hazelwood to the mix as he retains the mount at 123 pounds. (LY)
