Government Senator Gregory Nicholls is far from happy with the Barbados Light & Power’s (BL&P) latest rate increase which is under application by the Fair Trading Commission (FTC).
And he finds it hard to accept the utility company’s reasons for wanting the rate increase, Nicholls told the Senate yesterday during the debate on the Electric Light & Power (Amendment) Bill, 2022.
“I have to take aim at the situation in which we find ourselves with this application,” he said about the Light & Power’s ask of the FTC.
“When we look at the motions before the Fair Trading Commission, and we look at the deliberations and proceedings, one has to question whether or not in the interest of this country, whether any licences of that nature should be given to an entity that owns 100 per cent of the shares,” he told the Senate.
