In about three years’ time, the backlog that has long plagued the criminal justice system should be gone.
This is the prediction of Justice Carlisle Greaves, who yesterday said with that backlog gone, courts could then afford to get tough on crime.
“We’re not there yet. We are still a little stretched out but over the next two or so years, two to three years, we expect to meet that goal,” he said.
Speaking after the slated trial in the No. 3 Supreme Court turned into a guilty plea, Justice Greaves stressed a disposal was “a disposal”.
“Once we get the numbers down we can control this crime situation . . . . And when we get these numbers down to very manageable levels that is when the courts will be at their strongest,” the judge said. (HLE)
