Barbadian driver Zane Maloney staged a remarkable comeback to capture his first Formula 3 victory yesterday in the feature race at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
The 18-year-old rising sensation escaped serious injury after being involved in a crash with Campos Racing’s Oliver Goethe during the sixth lap of the sprint race on Saturday, but recovered tremendously to help guide team-mate Roman Stanek home and secure a first double podium finish of the season for the Trident team.
“Obviously very happy to get the first win in F3. Who would have thought that would happen after yesterday [Saturday], so amazing job to the team – this win is only for them.
“Honestly, they’ve done an amazing job, they didn’t have any sleep and I was able to go out there and win for them. So big celebrations tonight and thank you for everyone’s support and also in Barbados as well for all the support,” Maloney said in a post-race interview. (AGB)
