Prosecution seeks 20 years for rapist

The prosecution believes the man convicted of raping his girlfriend’s then seven-year-old daughter should get 20 years in jail.

However, the convicted man’s attorney has argued the starting point for his sentence should not be higher than 15 years.

These were the submissions made when the stepfather reappeared in the No. 5 Supreme Court yesterday.

The man, then 40, had denied having unlawful sexual intercourse with the girl, now 17, between May 1 and June 30, 2013; buggering her between the same dates, and committing an act of serious indecency on her, also between the same dates.

The jury found him guilty of the first and third counts, but returned a seven-two not-guilty verdict on buggery. (HLE)
