Eighteen dressage riders from the Barbados Equestrian Association have made the cut for this year’s overall Caribbean Challenge.
Among them are veteran equestrian and champion rider Roberta Foster, and the decorated Tammy Pinto.
Last weekend, 35 riders engaged in heavy competition at the Congo Road Stables, St Philip, for the annual Cargo BGI/Southern Palms Caribbean Equestrian Association Dressage Challenge, where winners in six categories will also represent the island later this year.
International judge, Cesar Torrente, who has not been on the island for over three years, said he was overwhelmed at the high level of performance on display, and noted the improvement was enormous.
On Saturday, the riders endured tests at various levels from Beginners straight through to Grand Prix, which was performed by Foster on her trusted mount Chichic, along with Mackenzie Manning and Ruveyda, who are all hoping to qualify for next year’s Central American and Caribbean Games.
Meanwhile, Sunday saw the highest number of freestyle tests performed by the riders, from Intermediate 1 to Introductory level.
