Barbadian Formula 3 ace Zane Maloney returns to action in a confident mood ahead for this weekend’s second round of the 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship at Italy’s Imola Circuit after claiming pole position in yesterday’s qualifying session.
The 18-year-old racer will be seeking double redemption at Imola and attaining pole position is the first step to achieving at least a podium finish in his first season in the FIA competition.
Last season in the first round of the Formula Regional European Championship (FRECA) at Imola, Maloney finished third in race one and retired from the second race. In this season’s first round from March 19 to 20 at the Bahrain International Circuit, he placed fourth in the sprint before retiring in the feature race.
Maloney achieved pole position yesterday by clocking the fastest lap time of 1:41.18 minutes in the session and was awarded a bonus two points ahead of tomorrow’s feature race. (NM)
