Plans unveiled to enhance care for the elderly and aging population

Barbados is on track to become a super-aged society, with over 50% of the population expected to be 65 years or older by 2050.

Straughn noted that older people generally prefer to be cared for in their homes and communities.

To address this, new initiatives have been announced, including the establishment of daycare and residential facilities for the elderly and adults with disabilities. Additional daycare facilities for children will also be created as part of this broader social transformation.

The first facilities will be built in Sterling, St. Philip, and Edgehill, St. Thomas. Over the next five years, the plan is to expand these facilities to every parish across the island.
