Che Simmons Extends Bears Deal

Barbadian-born fast bowler Che Simmons has committed his future to Warwickshire Cricket
Club by signing a contract extension that will keep him at Edgbaston until at least the end of
the 2026 season.

Simmons joined Warwickshire’s Academy in 2021 and has quickly become one of the most
promising talents in English cricket. His debut in the County Championship this May was
nothing short of spectacular, as the 20-year-old took five wickets in the match against
Essex, including a stunning 3/12 off seven overs in the first innings.

Warwickshire’s Performance Director, Gavin Larsen, was full of praise for Simmons,
highlighting the young pacer’s immense potential. “Che is a pace bowler with an
exceptionally high ceiling,” explained Larsen when discussing the contract extension.
“Anyone who saw his debut can’t fail to have been impressed. He bowled with pace and
bounce, and his smooth action made it all seem almost effortless. His batting is also
progressing well, and he’s developing the ability to score crucial runs down the order.”

The dynamic fast bowler, who has been likened to Jofra Archer by onlookers in England,
first burst onto the cricketing scene in Barbados, where he represented his nation at the
Under-19 level. His talent was undeniable from the start, most notably when he took all 10
wickets in an innings while playing for the Franklyn Stephenson Academy, finishing with
jaw-dropping figures of 10/16 from just 5.3 overs.

Reflecting on his journey, Simmons, who holds a United Kingdom passport, expressed pride
and gratitude for the opportunity to play for Warwickshire. “Signing a contract with
Warwickshire was a very proud moment for me and my family,” he said. “Moving to the UK
at 17 was a big decision, but it felt like the right one. The support I’ve received here has
made the transition easier. My bowling has improved significantly, whether it’s learning to
swing the ball or mastering the art of outsmarting batters.”

Looking ahead, Simmons is eager to cement his place in Warwickshire’s first team and help
the Bears secure victories and, ultimately, trophies. “The next few years are about becoming
a regular in the first team, contributing to wins, and hopefully winning some silverware,” he
added.

The 20 year old follows his countryman Jacob Bethell in signing a contract extension at
Warwickshire after the 20 year old all rounder recently signed a deal which runs until the
end of the 2025 season.

Warwickshire are next in action in the County Championship Division One on August 22
when they take on second placed Somerset at Edgbaston.
