BMS monitoring tropical wave as it approaches Barbados

The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) is closely monitoring a tropical wave positioned along 41W, approximately 1200 miles (1960 km) east of Barbados.

As of 4 pm today, the wave is moving westward at a speed of 15 to 20 mph. It is important to note that this system is distinct and separate from Hurricane Beryl.

Currently characterized by an area of low pressure, the tropical wave appears disorganized. However, environmental conditions in its path are expected to favour gradual development as it tracks westward across the Atlantic.

By the time it reaches Barbados, it is projected to strengthen into a significant tropical wave.

This feature will affect Barbados sometime on Wednesday and during this time excessive rainfall, gusty winds and deterioration of marine conditions are likely.

In light of this approaching weather system, the public is advised to remain vigilant and stay updated through the Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS), DEM, and GIS websites, as well as their respective social media channels. Local media outlets will also provide updates as the situation progresses. (BMS)
