Three new fire tenders have been added to the fleet of the Barbados Fire Service. They were inspected by Minister of Home Affairs and Information, Wilfred Abrahams, at the Bridgetown Port this morning.
These vehicles, each costing $3 million, were ordered nearly two years ago but faced significant delays due to supply chain issues.
“These new tenders are replacing old ones that needed to be retired,” stated Chief Fire Officer Errol Maynard. He also mentioned that while they are still not at full capacity, because they are new, their advanced features will enhance efficiency, particularly in the Bridgetown area.
The current fleet consists of 12 firefighting tenders, with a shortfall of about three or four.
One of the new tenders will be stationed in St. John, replacing the one lost in the recent fire incident. The other two will serve the Bridgetown Station and the port, respectively.
Maynard emphasized the importance of these new vehicles in maintaining and improving the firefighting capabilities of the department.
