Amiya Harrison was the latest name added to the growing list of swimmers who qualified for next month’s CARIFTA Games.
Harrison hit the mark with a powerful swim in the 11-12 Girls’ 50m breaststroke on Friday’s third day of the Barbados Aquatic Sports Association’s (BASA) Long Course Swimming Championships at the Aquatic Centre.
Harrison clocked a CARIFTA “A” standard 37.51 seconds to win the race comfortably from Pirates’ Toria Alleyne, who was second in a CARIFTA “B” time of 39.16 seconds, and Jaiya Simmons (39.17). Fayth Jeffrey clocked 39.49 seconds for fourth place.
Heidi Stoute dominated the 11-12 Girls’ 400m freestyle as she coasted to the finish in 4:41.82 minutes. Simmons was second in a time of 4:51.69 minutes and Jeffrey finished third in 5:04.41 minutes. (NM)
