Forty-eight-year-old Ron Alvin Bowen’s body was found in a track at Gays, Boscobelle, St Peter, yesterday morning with an apparent gunshot injury.
Bowen, who lived in the district, was discovered around 7:45 a.m. with what appeared to be a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical doctor. Family members later identified him.
His family did not speak to the media, but some residents remembered Bowen as a sociable man who always got along with others. One resident who asked not to be named recalled hearing the sound of gunshots late on Tuesday night.
“I heard shots about minutes to ten, and I thought somebody got a gun and testing the shots. Then around 7:30 in the morning or so my sister comes up and says she feel so wobbly, they find Ron,” said the resident, adding that she worries for herself and her family members in light of the violence that shook this small-knit community.
“Nothing happens around here like that. I don’t know, the people like they trigger happy or something, because it’s like I told you, I thought they were testing a gun.”
Acting Inspector Sandra Dottin said investigations were ongoing.
“The body was found by a female in this district around 7:30 a.m. so we are trying to identify what exactly happened, the time it transpired, and how we can bring this matter to closure.
“In this small-knit community, we will get this matter dealt with. So far we’ve been able to do some canvassing of the area, and we are trying to gather exactly what transpired here this morning or last night,” Dottin said.
The Barbados Police Service is appealing to anyone who can provide any information pertaining to this incident to contact the Criminal Investigations Department (Northern Division) at 419-1730 or 419-1737, police emergency at 211, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS (8477) or any police station.
