Mum asks why no charges filed

Sixteen days after a mother made a report to the District “E” Police Station, that her four year-old daughter was sexually assaulted by a general worker at the primary school she attends, she is questioning why the culprit has not been charged.

According to the angry mother in her account to the DAILY NATION, the incident is said to have occurred in the afternoon of January 11 when her daughter went to the bathroom to wash her hands. Her daughter told her the general worker took her into a cubicle and assaulted her.

Pointing out that the man who has been attached at the school for many years, has since been suspended by the Ministry of Education, the woman wants to know why the police have not taken him into custody or questioned him as yet.

“I contacted the police officer who is dealing with the matter and she sent me a text saying that he would be charged by last weekend, the latest being Monday this week; but today is Wednesday and he is not even in custody,” she stated, adding that her daughter was receiving counselling.

Superintendent Ricardo Phillips of the Holetown Police Station confirmed that the matter was being investigated. He also confirmed that no one was in custody or had been charged.

Anger

The mother of three daughters said that she was shocked that the man had not been taken in custody since her daughter had identified him by name as her assailant to the police, the Child Care Board social worker and the doctors who examined her. “So are they taking so long because he is the brother of a politician,” she stated, adding that her anger had also been fuelled because her mother saw the perpetrator at the top of her gap yesterday morning.

“What was he doing there?” she asked. “I need justice. I cannot sleep; I am not eating; I am just stressed out,” she vented
