BWU: No industrial action at Inchcape

As two parties prepare to return to the negotiating table to hammer out a new collective bargaining agreement, the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) is refuting claims of industrial action at Inchcape Barbados.

Initial reports reaching the DAILY NATION indicated negotiations had broken down and there was a “sickout” at company, formerly known as Simpson Motors, located in Warrens, St Michael.

“There was no industrial action at Inchcape. We heard, like many other people, that there might have been a few people at work sick,” BWU communications and information manager Cheyne Jones said, adding that it was “flu season and people get sick”.

He said last Friday, the union and management at Inchcape met to negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement. The current one was in place under Simpson Motors.
