NUPW: Put measures in place to tackle late payments

The National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) says not paying workers on time is not only unjust, but a breach of their employment contract.

Deputy general secretary Wayne Walrond said the union has received too many complaints from members regarding late payment of salaries and wages.

Acknowledging there were processes to be followed as it relates to paying workers, he told the Weekend Nation effective measures must be put in place to tackle the issue once and for all.

“In 2023 you are looking for a more efficient and modern public service, so things like late payments are unacceptable, it is reprehensible. If you are talking about public sector reform and you want a more efficient and productive public service, well one of the things is that people should be paid on time.
