Man admits to damaging road

Fed up with water gushing onto his property every time it rained heavily, as it did over the weekend, and with no help from officials, Leslie Deroy Hinds took matters into his own hands.

But the remedy he installed ran him foul of the law and landed him in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court where he was chastised and given advice by Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes yesterday.

Hinds, 53, of Golden Acre, St Stephen’s Hill, Black Rock, St Michael, pleaded guilty to the charge that without lawful authority, he damaged Golden Acre roadway, the property of the State in its rights as the Government of Barbados, on December 16.

He also admitted he made use of abusive language on December 16.

“On the said day, the Sunday, the rain come down. The water comes off the road and I had to build a dam at the first house to stop the water and the debris from going into the house,” he explained.(HLE)
