A St Philip man has been found guilty of unlawfully wounding a woman three years ago after, she said, she refused his sexual advances.
Shurland Orlando Davis, 53, of Brereton Village, was on trial in Supreme Court No. 3A accused of unlawfully wounding Althea Burke with intent to do her serious bodily harm, or to maim, disfigure or disable her on April 21, 2020, and the lesser count of unlawfully wounding Burke on that same date.
On Friday, the jury of two men and seven women returned a unanimous guilty verdict on the second count.
Justice Anthony Blackman ordered a pre-sentencing report on Davis, who returns to court today, when he will be informed of the date for that report to be presented.
During the trial, the complainant said she knew Davis for a long time because they grew up together, and after she returned to Brereton to live, they exchanged numbers. Ever since, she added, he had been propositioning her for sex. (HLE)
