Barbados’ cyclist Amber Joseph held her own against some of the world’s best but had to settle for sixth place overall with 105 points in the Women’s Omnium event which consisted of four races on day six of the Pan American Games at the Velodromo in Santiago, Chile.
Competing at her second Pan Am Games for Barbados, Joseph, a bronze medallist at the Central American and Caribbean Games got off to a really good start in the scratch race, which was the first for the day.
The talented Joseph finished second overall behind fellow Caribbean competitor Alexi Costa of Trinidad and Tobago after a whopping 30 laps. That earned her 38 points as she then entered the Omnium Tempo and came sixth overall.
However, the competition took a break until the evening when Joseph had two races left to contest. She ended in 10th place in the women’s Omnium Elimination and was sixth in the Women’s Omnium Points. Mexican Mendoza Yareli won the gold medal with 128 points.
