Eight young men, including one already on bail accused of murder, were remanded to Dodds Prison after they appeared on robbery and violent disorder charges in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Nico Nathaniel Perch, 21, of Risk Road, Fitts Village, St James; Tarrell Andre Cumberbatch, 17, of Free Hill, Black Rock, St Michael; Keshawn Omar Yearwood, 16, of Thompson Road, Wavell Avenue, Black Rock, St Michael; Nathan Kenan Daemon Gibbons, 17, of Yearwood Road, Black Rock, St Michael; Shakeil Akeem Connell, 29, a general worker, of Fryers Well, Checker Hall, St Lucy; Tavian Victor Jyair Eastmond, a 17-year-old porter, of Risk Road, Fitts Village, St James; Kingaziz Carter, 20, of Risk Road, Fitts Village, St James, and Darique Devon Carrington, 23, of Berbice No 2, Fitts Village, St James, were not required to plead to robbing Paul Whittaker of three chains, a $1 600 cellphone and a bag on August 23.
They were also not required to plead to the charge that together with others, they used unlawful violence towards Whittaker and their conduct was such as would cause a person of reasonable firmness to fear for their safety, also on August 23.
Prosecutor Sergeant Randolph Boyce strenuously objected to the eight being released on bail.
He said Carrington was on bail from the High Court for murder; Connell was on bail for aggravated burglary and was known to the court, while Eastmond was on bail for a firearm matter.(HLE)
