Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes has had enough of complainants making reports to the police and then withdrawing them mere days later.
Yesterday, he made his feelings known, after a complainant requested that the matter against accused Corey Anthony Jamar Springer, of Whitehall Main Road, St Michael, be discontinued.
The general worker, 35, was charged with unlawfully assaulting Rhea Richards on July 12. When Springer first appeared in court he was granted $1 500 bail and the case adjourned until August 9.
When Springer went before the District “A” Magistrates’ Court No. 1, the complainant said she wanted the matter against him dismissed. Richards was the second person to take the witness stand and ask for a matter to be discontinued yesterday.
The Chief Magistrate did so, but not without a stern warning to the public. (SD)
