Letitbeme and Matilda, winners of the first and second Jewel Of The Barbados Triple Crown, the Guineas and the Midsummer Creole Classic, highlight a pivotal clash in Tuesday’s featured Barbados Derby at the Garrison Savannah.
This spectacle will unfold on the Barbados Turf Club’s eight-race programme entitled Visit Barbados Derby Raceday which rolls off at 1 p.m. A full field of 12 runners will be vying for the premier show piece over 2 000 metres, worth $118 250.
There are several other mouth-watering races to keep punters busily entertained. One such race is the curtain-closing Pride Of Barbados Trophy Condition Race for the top-class horses over 1 570 metres.
Heading this speed fest is Sandy Lane Spa Sprint winner Joqular, owned by Darwin Clarke and Paul Doughty, who makes a delayed return to the track after her hard-fought triumph over 1 100 metres. Champion jockey Rasheed Hughes climbs aboard and is expected to give an amazing account. (LY)
