Sixty-one people were treated at the scene of an accident at Lower Carlton, St James, earlier Tuesday.
None of the injuries were life-threatening, but 19 were sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) for further treatment.
A mass casualty was declared and the Incident Command Activated just after 9 a.m. when two Transport Board buses collided.
Head of the Emergency Ambulance Service, Dr David Byer, and his team, did the assessments in the field. Twenty-seven people were seen, treated and discharged; eight were referred from the scene to the polyclinic and seven sought private medical attention.
One of the drivers was among those sent to the QEH.
Visiting to the Accident and Emergency Department were temporarily suspended due to the mass casualty status. (PR/SAT)
