Leading police on a high-speed chase last Thursday turned out to be quite an expensive venture for Lemar Alexander Burnett.
The 32-year-old, of Brewster’s Gap, St Michael, has to pay $5 300 in fines after breaking several traffic laws while trying to escape from the law.
Burnett, who works periodically, was charged with seven traffic offences: dangerous driving, driving without due care and attention, driving without reasonable consideration for other road users, failing to stop at the sound of a siren, failing to comply with a stop sign, failing to use appropriate hand signals or indicators, and failing to comply with a No Entry sign, all of which he pleaded guilty to before Magistrate Allison Burke on Friday.
Prosecutor Constable Ralph Rollock told the District “A” Traffic Court that lawmen saw Burnett at the Ena Walters Roundabout, coming from the Martindale’s Road, St Michael direction. He drove so quickly at the roundabout that the police driver had to slam on his brakes to avoid a collision. (SD)
