Primary school children will get $100 towards their textbooks when the new term starts in September.
It is similar to what has long been done for secondary school students with the textbook loan scheme.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley announced that “effective immediately” the Government will be providing $100 for purchasing textbooks for each primary school child.
Speaking at the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean’s (CAF) launch of its Report on Economic Development, Mottley, said that with the entrenched secondary textbook loan scheme many had forgotten the financial strain of purchasing textbooks.
She explained that there are plans for a primary and secondary schools digital book loan scheme but until then Government would be partially footing the bill for the pupils. (CLM)
