Guyana Amazon Warriors remain unbeaten

The Guyana Amazon Warriors maintained their unbeaten streak in the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with a dominant six-wicket victory over the St Lucia Kings at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground last night.

The hosts faltered under the pressure of the Warriors’ formidable spin attack, being bowled out for a mere 100 runs. Imran Tahir and Gudakesh Motie, the latter earning Player of the Match honours, each claimed three wickets to dismantle the Kings’ batting order. Motie’s figures of 3/13 were particularly devastating, while Tahir’s 3/29 ensured the Kings never found a foothold after a calamitous PowerPlay left them reeling at 43/4.

Matthew Forde’s lower-order resistance briefly salvaged the Kings’ innings, inching them to the three-figure mark. However, the total proved inadequate as the Warriors confidently pursued the target.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, in scintillating form, set the stage alight with a blistering knock of 47 from just 19 deliveries. His innings, composed entirely of seven towering sixes, lit up the Saint Lucia sky as he tore into the Kings’ attack. Though his attempt at a reverse sweep led to an lbw dismissal with the Warriors needing just nine more runs, his explosive performance had all but sealed the win.

Opener Tim Robinson contributed a brisk 33 from 20 balls, including a beautifully lofted six straight down the ground. Even Alzarri Joseph’s brief resurgence, which saw him dismiss Azam Khan and exchange heated words with Shimron Hetmyer, couldn’t shift the momentum. Hetmyer responded in kind, sending Joseph’s next delivery soaring over mid-on before calmly steering the Warriors to victory.

This victory took the Warriors to the top of the table, with only the Barbados Royals sharing their unbeaten record in this year’s competition. One of their unbeaten records will go at Kensington Oval on Saturday, September 14, when the top two face each other. The St Lucia Kings will play last year’s finalists, the Trinbago Knight Riders.

Summarised Scores:
St Lucia Kings 100 all out in 14.3 overs (Matthew Forde 31, Johnson Charles 19; Imran Tahir 3-29, Gudakesh Motie 3-19)

Guyana Amazon Warriors 101-4 in 10 overs (Rahmanullah Gurbaz 47, Tim Robinson 33; Noor Ahmad 3-22, Alzarri Joseph 1-18)
