World to reach gender parity in ‘134 years’

It will take up to 134 years to reach full gender parity even though there has been significant progress in closing gender gaps globally.

This estimation made by the World Economic Forum, was highlighted by Country Representative for the Inter-American Bank Carina Cockburn, as she addressed a gathering of young women from various secondary schools at the I Am A Girl conference at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre yesterday.

Under the theme Accelerate Action: Empowering Girls for a Sustainable Future the event echoed with positive messages of inspiration, growth, leadership and barrier breaking, in commemoration of International Women’s Day.

Care and caregivers were also highlighted as the “piece to the puzzle” to achieving gender equality. (AJ)
