Health authorities in Barbados reported on Monday that two more elderly people are the latest to die from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and 59 new cases of the viral illness were detected in the island.
Acccording to a news release from the Barbados Government Information Service, a 65-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman died on Monday from the illness.
Consequently, the death toll from the virus has reached 546.
Health authorities also indicated 27 males and 32 females tested positive for COVID-19 from 298 tests conducted by laboratories across the island on Sunday.
The new cases included 12 young people under the age of 18.
At the same time, there were 60 people receiving medical treatment in government isolation facilities, while 731 were being monitored under the home isolation programme of the Ministry of Health.
Health authorities also reported that 163 346 people (71.5 per cent of the eligible population) have been administered at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine under the national vaccination programme.
The number of people now considered fully vaccinated under the programme has risen to 154 436 (57 per cent of the total population or 67.6 per cent of the eligible population)≥
The eligible population is regarded as anyone 12 years and older.
