Two drug accused released on bail

Two St Philip men charged with drug trafficking were released on bail when they appeared in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court.

Lloyd Patrick Clarke, a 45-year-old gardener, of Train Road, Marchfield, and Dishan Xavier Jeremi Shomari Sargeant, 25, of River Crescent, were jointly charged with trafficking in cannabis on August 11.

Sargeant, who was represented by Queen’s Counsel Michael Lashley and attorneys Simon Clarke and Sade Harris, was solely charged with engaging in acts preparatory for the purpose of trafficking in cannabis, on August 12.

Clarke, who was represented by attorney Neville Reid, was solely charged that not being at his abode, he had a Barbados Identification card, in the name of Brenda Thompson, purporting to be a genuine ID card issued by the Electoral and Boundaries Commission, for use in the course of criminal deception, on August 12.

Each accused pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The alleged drugs weighed 3.1 kilogrammes with an estimated street value of $24 800.

There was no objection to bail and Magistrate Manila Renee released each accused with a surety of $15 000.

They return to court on November 14. (HLE)
