Tourism sector put on guard

With a more active hurricane season predicted, the tourism sector is being warned to be prepared on multiple levels.

The advice has come from disaster risk management specialist at the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, Dr Nicole Greenidge.

She was speaking yesterday during the first of two virtual Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association and Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) disaster management learning sessions entitled Outlook And Insights On The 2022 Hurricane Season.

Greenidge said the frequency, intensity and cost related to natural disasters were on the rise, so a comprehensive plan was a must.

“We are experiencing a change in the complexity and diversity of these hazards and seeing cumulative hazard impacts. However, there are deeper systemic and resilient issues which must be addressed in the long term which would help to significantly reduce the impacts relating to laws, legislation and planning. (CA)
