Time served not option for gunman

No amount of pleading by his attorney could get the No. 5 Supreme Court to consider time served for Venezuelan gun and drug runner Jhoan Jesus Morillo Cortez.

And, said Justice Pamela Beckles, if the court was considering a fine for the gunman, it would be forthwith and in the region of $100 000.

Cortez, a 33-year-old labourer who was living in Enterprise Centre, Chaguanas, Trinidad, had pleaded guilty to having 2.09 kilogrammes of cocaine within Barbados’ territorial waters on March 20, 2021; having a traffickable quantity of the drug and importing the cocaine.

He also confessed he had a .38-calibre revolver and four rounds of ammunition also on March 20, 2021. (HLE)
