Tariq Greenidge rules 11-12 age group

The National Short Course Swimming Championships were a break-out party for 12-year-old Tariq Greenidge who shone in the pool over the weekend.

Greenidge, a swimmer for the High Tide Sting Rays, emerged from the shadow of the Dolphin Swim Club trio Zachary Burke, Brennan Watson and Brendan Gill when the six days of exciting action came to an end on Sunday at the Aquatic Centre of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex in Wildey.

He was crowned the 11-12 boys’ champion with 127 points, way ahead of Watson on 83, Victor Ashby with 78 and Burke on 74.

Greenidge accentuated his growing prowess in the pool on the final day, taking the 200 metres backstroke in 2:20.52 minutes ahead of Gill, Hamani Callender and Burke.

He followed up with the gold in the 100 metres breaststroke with Burke, Watson and Gill trailing in that order. (Nation News)
