Barbadians have been urged to pay tribute to the ancestors who have laid the groundwork for those coming after them.
That was the message from historian Dr Nancy Jacobs yesterday as the Barbados Landship Association continued its 160th anniversary celebrations with a Tribute To The Ancestors ceremony at Holy Innocents Anglican Church in St Thomas.
The association paid homage to Barbadian heritage and culture with a lively cultural dance by ‘crew’ members to tuk band music at the gravesite of Lord Admiral Vernon Watson.
Jacobs, who has done extensive research on the origins and practices of the Barbados Landship, including publishing the book Full Steam Ahead, said even though a large demographic of those who were part of the Landship are now deceased, memories from the family members and prayers can still help prepare the present generation for the Landship journey.
