The then teenager who confessed to the statutory rape of a then 12-year-old girl, was given further time in which to pay compensation when he reappeared in the No. 5 Supreme Court.

The now 31-yearold man had pleaded guilty to having sexual intercourse with the girl who was under the age of 14 – 12 years – and who was not his spouse, on April 5, 2010.
Justice Pamela Beckles had ordered him to pay $25 000 in compensation of which $10 000 was paid forthwith. Of the remaining $15 000, $5 000 should have been paid by December 19 this year. However, when the matter was called, the court heard $2 500 had been paid and the convicted man, who was not in court, was asking for an extension in which to pay the remaining $2 500.
The judge granted the extension until March 27, 2026, and set it as the date for review.
The convicted man also has the remaining $10 000 to pay by that date. If he does not pay, he will spend five years, 115 days in prison.
He was represented by Senior Counsel Angella Mitchell-Gittens.
Senior State Counsel Kevin Forde, who prosecuted the matter, had told the court the girl went to the fun day at a pasture and was searching for her sister in the evening when the man came across her. He led her to the basement of a wall structure under construction and had sex with her.
The girl did not tell her mother but told a school friend. The mother later found out and the girl told her about the incident.
The mother took her to District “A” Police Station on April 22, 2020. She was interviewed and underwent a medical examination. (HLE)
