Leaders Barbados Pride endured a hard toil when Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Tevin Imlach hit half-centuries to anchor Guyana Harpy Eagles to 219 for four in their innings in the West Indies Championship yesterday in Trinidad.
Pacer Akeem Jordan snared 2-50 from 18 overs, but the Pride attack lacked penetration, and Chanderpaul, unbeaten on a typically obdurate 64, shared successive half-century stands with Imlach and his captain Leon Johnson to give the Harpy Eagles a solid base on the first day of their third round match at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Left-hander Chanderpaul, son of former West Indies left-hander Shivnarine Chanderpaul, batted all day and struck half-dozen fours from 259 balls to be the rock upon which the Harpy Eagles built their total.
Imlach made 53, Johnson added 37, and wicketkeeper-batsman Anthony Bramble was not out on 21 at the close. (AR/CMC)
