Former Barbados and West Indies wicket keeper/batsman David Murray should be remembered for his cricket ability and the “personality that we loved”, not the image many saw of him in the latter years.
Gregory “Titmus” Armstrong, who played alongside Murray in the Barbados team, delivered the eulogy at the funeral of the late cricketer at the St Mary’s Anglican Church yesterday. Murray collapsed and died metres away from his home in Station Hill a few weeks ago, at the age of 72.
“In the course of life, circumstances can bring about changes we least expect or could predict. Today, there is much talk about mental illness and its impact on society, but this mental illness had its impact on us long ago,” Armstrong told the congregation.
“Some of us managed to handle it better than others and so we don’t know what may have influenced the changes in David’s appearance in life, for inside the image you may remember of late, he was still a passive loving person.” (Nation News)
