Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, has been named among the Time 100 Most Influential Climate Leaders in Business for 2023.
The 100 list comprises climate change catalysts, leaders, titans, innovators and defenders.
Mottley is included in the final category as the head of a small island developing state, who has spoken about the disproportionate impact faced by these nations, but largely caused by the practices of more developed countries.
She has received global recognition for the Bridgetown Initiative. Proposed in 2022, it calls for urgent reform of global financial companies to help climate-vulnerable countries which cannot adopt new debt. This access to special financing would allow them recover in the event of a natural disaster.
Mottley has emerged as a regional advocate for climate change and has taken the message from the Caribbean to The Summit For A New Global Financial Pact, which starts in Paris, France, across Europe, and most recently to the Africa Investment Forum.
