Government is hoping to have the now scattered services which cater to a cross-section of people under one umbrella – the Department of Family Services – by May 2023.
Giving the update yesterday at this Culloden Road, St Michael constituency officers where he accepted a donation from Eric Hassell Shipping, Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Kirk Humphrey said preparations were well under way.
“I am confident that we will be able to deliver on the Department of Family Services by next year. We have now a governance framework that we settled on. We’ve also been able to go around and look at the various areas where we could potentially have those family services units in community offices so we’ve looked at 15 and we’re going around to determine what we need to make them disabled-friendly. . . It is now a matter of finalising the job analysis which is to look at what jobs are going to be necessary in this new amalgamated entity,” he explained.
“Currently, we have met with the staff of all the departments, we’ve met with the seniors several times [and] we’ve met with the unions. We have given the unions the complete and total commitment that we will not do anything without their support.” (Nation News)
