Initial work has begun on roads and bridges earmarked under the more than $250 million China National Complete Import and Export Corporation Limited (Complant) project.
The Daily Nation visited three of them yesterday – Bawdens and Shorey Village, St Andrew and Vaughn’s Road No. 1, St Joseph, all of which showed preliminary work had started. However, no actual construction was ongoing.
In April, Minister of Transport, Works and Water Resources, Deputy Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw said work would begin shortly for the installation of a temporary bridge at Bawdens, which was closed earlier in the month due to safety concerns. She said then a temporary bridge would be installed.
Yesterday, it was seen the bridge had been largely demolished and a temporary bypass road had been built around it.
Residents said while the bridge had a drop in the middle, its destruction was a major inconvenience so they were happy to see the bypass built. (CA)
