The family of missing man Rashaire Griffith-Garner has not given up hope he will be found, but is starting to fear the worst.
The 20-year-old, of 1st Avenue, Scotts Terrace, Grazettes, St Michael, was last seen by his brother Jaron Babb around 6 p.m. on March 8.
His great-aunt Jackie Maloney, who has been looking after the young man and his two brothers, ages 23 and 18, said this past week was especially tough.
“There is always a little hope, but my feeling as each day passes, especially this past week . . . where could he be that he can’t reach out, what could happen that you can’t get to who is checking for you?” she wondered.
“I am trying to prepare my mind, hoping for the best and expecting the worst kind of situation. I am being encouraged by family and friends to keep hope. Hope is always a good thing.”
Jackie said they checked the Queen Elizabeth Hospital but he was not a patient there.
“The others overseas are still holding out hope, but it has not been easy coming up to past a month. It is very hard to hold on to that hope.”
Great-uncle Everton Maloney, who lives in Long Island, United States, reached out to the NATION on Monday evening. He has been reading the paper every day, hoping for news of the young man. He is very concerned, especially since there has been no response via mobile phone.
Brief response on WhatsApp
“I know my sister is tearing up over this,” he said, explaining she was the one who looked after the three boys on the death of their mother last year.
Jackie said her last reply from Griffith-Garner was on March 10 when she
told him to come over. He gave a brief response on WhatsApp, but she is not sure if he went to the house when she was not there.
“I am trying to maintain my faith; that is what has kept me and I have to support the other two boys in the limited way that I can,” she said.
What raised another red flag is that Jaron celebrated his 23rd birthday this past weekend and there was still no sign of Rashaire. She said the boys always celebrated birthdays.
In the meantime, they have not heard from the police, but continue to ask around areas he is known to frequent.
Police public affairs and communications officer, Acting Inspector Ryan Brathwaite, told the MIDWEEK NATION there was nothing further to report at this time.
Griffith-Garner is five feet, nine inches tall, slimly built with a dark brown complexion. He has a tattoo of the number 6 on his left shoulder, the number 4 on the right shoulder and his mother’s name “Sabrina” on the right inner arm. He has a large scar on the right forearm.
He is soft spoken and walks erectly. Anyone knowing his whereabouts is asked to contact the Black Rock Police Station at 417-7500 or 417-7501, police emergency 211, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS (8477) or any police station. (PR/SAT)
