ERT: Sandy Lane wrong

The Employment Rights Tribunal (ERT) has ruled that Sandy Lane Company must pay a former employee over $40 000 in compensation.

The panel of Kathyann Hamblin, Deighton Marshall and Frederick Forde awarded Alicia Cheltenham $33 276 plus medical, travel and entertainment allowances for three months, and a month’s pay of $8 240.

She was dismissed from her post of compensation and benefit business partner on September 20, 2016 for inadvertently excluding a manager from an email, and the panel said the response “in all the circumstances, was extreme and disproportionate”.

The complaint against her was first made on June 9, 2016 and Cheltenham was summoned to a disciplinary hearing on July 27. (Nation News)
