Ellerton Football Club, with their backs against the wall, staged a dramatic comeback to secure a 2-1 extra-time victory over Pride of Gall Hill in the final Round of 16 clash of the Prime Minister’s Cup semi-professional football tournament.
A massive crowd in the heart of Speightstown, St Peter, came out in their numbers on Sunday evening to see the electrifying night of football action, which featured stunning goals from ace marksman and former Barbados captain Rashad Jules and Ellerton’s captain Shakille Belle.
Determined not to let their chance of claiming the $100 000 grand prize slip away, Ellerton found their way back into the game when second half substitute and attacking midfielder Jules scored in the 85th minute, levelling the scores 1-1. Captain Belle then delivered the decisive blow with a match-winning goal in the 105th minute, securing Ellerton’s place in the quarter-finals.
Gall Hill’s defence, led by captain Ramon Rollins along with Shamari Best, Shaquanni Jones and Shaquan Walrond, was especially vigilant against Jules, fully aware of the threat he posed. (ML)
