Route taxi conductor Damian Stefan Inniss, who killed a fellow conductor over an insult relating to his stay in prison, was given a starting sentence of 18 years when he reappeared in the No 4 Supreme Court yesterday.
However, he will serve a remaining eight years, 138 days after a number of deductions.
Inniss, 35, of 4th Avenue, New Orleans, St Michael, had pleaded guilty, at an earlier Session of the Continuous Sittings, to unlawfully killing – manslaughter – Darian Greaves on August 3, 2019.
He was originally arraigned with murder but had denied that count. State Counsel Kevin Forde and State Counsel Treann Knight appeared for the prosecution, while attorney Lesley Cargill-Straker represented Inniss.
Inniss had two prior convictions for causing a disturbance and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
His pre-sentencing report deemed him as posing a medium risk of re-offending.
Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell said she had considered that Inniss stabbed Greaves 22 times after the deceased suggested Inniss was sexually abused or sodomised while in prison.
