Crime operation a ‘big success’

Operation Restore Order, the joint initiative by the Barbados Police Service and the Barbados Defence Force to combat gun crimes, has been deemed a success.

Commissioner of Police Richard Boyce says the response, which was introduced last December, has resulted in less fear among members of the public, who now feel they can go about their business.

Speaking from the well of Parliament last Friday during the Estimates as part of the team under the portfolio of the office of the Attorney General, Boyce said there were also more tangible measures like the number of firearms and rounds of ammunition seized as well as the stop and searches of vehicles and individuals.

“At some time, we will have to review this operation. If necessary, it would have to be recalibrated to ensure no ground is given. There is need to maintain that strong footing . . . that strong intent,” the Commissioner said. (Nation News)
