Health authorities in Barbados reported on Friday that 62 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) were detected in the island on Thursday, September 8.
According to a news release issued through the Barbados Government Information Service, 23 males and 39 females – including six young people under the age of 18 – were identified from the 414 tests conducted by laboratories across the island.
The news release added 53 people were now being treated for the viral illness at government isolation facilities, while 526 were being monitor under the home isolation programme of the Ministry of Health & Wellness.
Health authorities also indicated 163 392 people (71.5 per cent of the eligible population) have now received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine under the national vaccination programme.
The number of people now considered fully vaccinated in the island stands at 154 476 (57 per cent of the total population or 67.6 per cent of the eligible population).
The eligible population is anyone 12 years and older.
