‘Bright’ Winter

Minister of Tourism Ian Gooding-Edghill continues to paint a positive picture of the winter season for Barbados.

Speaking yesterday as officials welcomed Arvia, the largest passenger-capacity cruise ship to ever call at the Bridgetown Port in a dockside ceremony, he said arrival figures were on the up.

Gooding-Edghill said that so far, “statistics from the 2022/2023 winter cruise season show a ten per cent increase from 2019, while in December 2022,  29 138 passengers disembarked at the port, exceeding the number of passengers in 2018 and 2019”.

Arvia paid its inaugural call with 4 376 passengers and 1 727 crew on board. The Zouave Band of the Barbados Defence Force and a steel band entertained disembarking passengers. It will have its official naming ceremony in Barbados in March, a first for the island. (Nation News)
