Well-known charity worker Sharon Bellamy took more than 100 children on a back-to-school shopping spree yesterday at Abed’s Store on Swan Street, The City.
Bellamy said she was able to undertake the substantial initiative as a result of a generous donation from Chefette Restaurants. She estimated that it would take $12 000 to provide clothes and other supplies for the children.
Hundreds of parents descended at the store, with many waiting patiently outside as inside became too full.
Speaking above the excited crowd, Bellamy told the Midweek Nation: “Today, I am here at Abed’s trying to outfit over 100 kids with a donation from Chefette. I want to say thank you to Mr Haloute, his son Ryan and Lisa Carter for the substantial amount that will help these kids go back to school.
“They are privileged because in these hard economic times some parents cannot afford to buy school clothes for their kids.”
Bellamy said the children were those who her charity group Fishers of Men usually provided for. (MB)
