Barbados captured the West Indies Rising Stars Under-17 50-over title yesterday in anticlimactic fashion after their final round fixture against hosts Trinidad and Tobago at the National Cricket Centre was abandoned due to rain.
Having won their first two matches versus Guyana and Windward Islands, the Barbados team sprung to the top of table, before the three remaining series were completely washed out.
On 16.2 points, Barbados edged out Trinidad and Tobago who placed second on 16 points.
Disappointingly, yesterday’s virtual final never came to fruition as the tournament succumbed to a weather system which affected most of the region, as many Caribbean Premier League fixtures were also drenched in St Lucia.
Special performances came from off-spinner Preston Clarke who claimed figures of five for 25 to roll over the Guyanese last week.
Fast bowler Kyron King bagged seven wickets in two matches, four for 13 in the Guyana game, and three for 38 versus Windwards.
The Bajan batsmen recorded no half-centuries across their two games, however middle-order batsman Akeem McCollin made an unbeaten 37 to guide Barbados to victory over Guyana.
Left-handed opener Gadson Bowens top-scored with 37 against Windwards.
On Wednesday, Barbados begin their two-day campaign to Windwards at Powergen Cricket Ground. (RW)
