Barbados secured their ninth medal at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in typical industrious fashion when the team of Kyle Gale, Rasheeme Griffith, Rivaldo Leacock and Desean Boyce won silver in the men’s 4x400m relay on Friday night.
The performance at the Estadio Nacional Jorge El Mágico González in San Salvador, El Salvador, ended Barbados’ participation at the Games, as anchor leg Boyce admirably fended off the late challenge of Dominican Republic’s Lidio Felix, who won bronze for his team.
The Barbadians finished in 3:02.12 minutes, just ahead of the Dominicanos in 3:02.19 minutes. The victors were Trinidad and Tobago in 3:01.99 minutes and they were brought home safely by men’s 400m gold medallist Jereem Richards.
Barbados may have reached a double figure medal haul but for a narrow 51-50 defeat to Caribbean neighbours St Vincent and the Grenadines in the netball bronze medal match earlier on Friday night.
Barbados ended the Games with two gold medals, two silver medals and five bronze medals. (NM)
